The Challenge >> When a well fails, what you don't know will hurt you... That's why it is so important to do your trouble-shooting before problems arise. Volant's advanced load bearing and sealing products for drilling and completions are designed to avoid snags before they happen. Deformation-controlled loading such as in thermal stimulation and formation compaction can be a costly challenge and a common cause of failure. Whenever a well has transitions in casing properties, the heavier and stronger section automatically transfers the load to the lighter and weaker section. This allows the larger casing to slide in the formation and deform the smaller casing as much as 10 times the normal amount, greatly increasing the risk of failure. |

The Solution - Geolok >> Volant has developed the GeoLOK system, a low-cost, reliable method of ensuring uniform deformations in casing, even in the most demanding applications, without adding costly, rigid threaded connections that gouge the cement sheath in a load transfer interval. The GeoLOK system reduces sliding between the larger casing and formation while allowing the smaller casing to slide and absorb the remaining movement. The transfer won't damage the cement, which maintains it's integrity even after unloading. Its mechanical interaction with the cement is like that of a threaded connection, without any of the disadvantages and allows enough movement with the casing to distribute the load transfer over its optimal length. |

GeoLOK Features >> Geolok is an engineered tubular product that utilizes the Volant Radial Tubular Forming (RTF)tool. Crimping GeoLok rings onto the stronger casing at strength transitions creates a high friction to the pipe and presents a bearing surface for mechanical interaction with the cement. The closely spaced rings provide dramatically higher load transfer rates to the formation than is possible with basic pipe. Volant can also provide geotechnical analysis to determine the number and spacing of rings required. |
